Things I Did: Research, Benchmarking, Data Scrubbing
Duration: 8/22/23 - 10/09/23 (8 weeks)
About ISSIP
ISSIP (International Society of Service Innovation Professionals) is a non-profit organization that allows the networking and helping of other people, organizations, and businesses.
The following data is the final composition of what our team thought were the divisions of the survey given to us by Jim Spohrer. These two different data scrubs focused on the ideas of “What kinds of innovations offer the most promise in terms of potential benefits? What kinds are the most threatening in terms of potential harms?” and “Do you have a “Tech for Good” position statement to share?”
Interviewed both the cofounder and the vice president of ISSIP.
Here are the key takeaways
Name: Jim Spohrer
Role: Co-founder of ISSIP
Key Takeaways: Spohrer wanted to get a point across where innovation will become more developed, especially from the service innovation perspective. He also highlighted that innovations both come with good and harm, so the way to benefit all is to bring as little harm into the equation of the development of innovation.
Name: Deborah Stokes
Role: Vice President of ISSIP
Key Takeaways: Stokes is looking forward to becoming the President of ISSIP in the upcoming year. She wanted to highlight that ISSIP provides many hands-on opportunities. One main factor that ISSIP is discussing and working on is technology for good. All in all, Stokes advised the students to have an unlimited imagination, and instead of letting anyone tell you what can and cannot be done, we should focus on how to get said idea done.
Challenges
01 Menu and Category Space
The menu/category space that is used on the ISSIP website is unproportionate. The text is small against the negative space that there is around the different categories.
02 Provided Experience
ISSIP is very forward on how they want to create a space where like minded people can join, research, learn, and network along one another, yet there is not much experiences that novices are open to. Most of the meetings and conferences that are held are for people who have written papers on the focused subject of that meeting and gone through the application process, which leads to most novices to be constrained in attending these meetings.

Solutions to Menu
A significant strategy for enhancing the navigational ease of menus and categories involves expanding the categories and incorporating concise descriptions for each category’s content. This approach facilitates smoother menu traversal within each category due to the noticeable size distinctions.
Solutions to Oppurtunies
Networking Events and Platforms:
- Organize regular networking events, both in-person and virtually, where members can connect, share insights, and build professional relationships.
- Create an online platform or forum where members can easily interact, ask questions, and seek advice from others in their field.
Collaboration with Industry Partners:
- Partner with industry organizations and companies to offer members access to real-world projects and opportunities.
- These collaborations can also include access to industry events, conferences, and resources.
Skill Development Workshops:
- Offer workshops and training sessions focused on building essential skills in the field, helping members become more proficient and competitive in the job market.
Feedback Mechanisms:
- Create a feedback system where members can provide input on their needs and preferences, helping ISSIP tailor its offerings to meet those needs effectively.
Conclusion:
By implementing these solutions, ISSIP can significantly enhance the experience it provides to its members, improve networking opportunities, and establish a robust mentorship structure. This, in turn, will lead to substantial growth and advancements for the organization, fulfilling its mission more effectively and making it a more attractive platform for professionals in the field.
